my advice:
“Seriously, stop trying to be perfect. If you can get 80% of your tasks handled, use the time it would have taken to finish the other 20% and sing karaoke, challenge your significant other to Wii bowling, or watch your guilty pleasure TV show with your best friend (cough, Gossip Girl). It’s never a waste of time to relax and regroup! Trust me, your shirts on the closet floor can always wait.”

my to-do list habits

I have a running to-do list in an Excel Spreadsheet. This way, every time I get a new task emailed to me or given to me during a meeting, I just type it in real quick. I also print it off each morning and highlight the top 3 priorities for the day so that I can physically “cross items off” throughout the day. Then at 4:30pm, I delete everything off of the electronic list that has been completed. It works great to have the electronic version because then I don’t have to worry about losing a notebook or piece of paper!

a little about me

Ashleigh joined the Buttoned Up team in 2007 as a fresh-faced graduate of the University of Michigan and has been happily tackling her transition from multi-tasking college student to “real world business newbie”. While an undergraduate Wolverine, she focused her studies in marketing, public relations, media and ethics and received her BA in Communication Studies in 2007. As a student, she juggled a full class schedule, regular volunteer work, 4-H, part-time babysitting work and still managed to find time to tutor Michigan athletes! All that juggling means she’s a virtual ‘black belt’ in planning and time management. Ashleigh has put those organizational skills to work at Buttoned Up in operations and marketing.

Although a relatively new member of the Buttoned Up team, Ashleigh has been submerged in all of the exciting angles and opportunities of the company, from New Product Development to Supply Chain Management, Public Relations to International Relations. While used to wearing different metaphorical “hats”, one of her top priorities is getting her home life responsibilities, like finances and filing, Buttoned Up. As an adult striking out on her own for the first time, she’s admitted to being a little nervous, but ready for the challenge too, especially since she’ll be surrounded by the Buttoned Up team of organizational experts. In her spare time she is an avid golfer and loves to travel. “For me, being Buttoned Up is a method to manage my personal responsibilities quickly & efficiently so I have more time to hit the beach or catch up with friends.”

Ashleigh currently resides in Los Angeles, CA with her three favorites, Brett and her Ragdoll cats Lilleigh and Breagan.

    I can't live without my Pet.doc. My cats are like family so having their Pet.doc filled out makes me feel assured that if I have to take them to the Emergency Room, the Vet can give them the best care knowing Lilleigh’s & Breagan’s health backgrounds.

    I can’t live without Facebook. It’s the best way to stay in touch with my friends who live all over the country- especially since I just moved to California from Michigan. And with everyone getting married and having babies, this is a way for me to keep up on my best friend’s evolving lives (and share my exciting transitions and updates too).

  • Pet.doc, $8.95

    My two Purebred Ragdoll cats are my babies. They truly are a part of my family and make me smile every day, so it’s important to me to have all of their medical and other important information all in one place. With my Pet.doc filled out, I can simply hand the bound notebook to the vet when we go in for check-ups, and if the unexpected occurs where we have to go to the 24-hour emergency vet, all of the records are in the Pet.doc. This is also a great resource to have when I travel and Lilleigh and Breagan go to the kennel. I know that the boarders will have all of the feeding, immunization, and care data they will need to make my babies vacation extra comfortable and safe.


  • Password.log, $4.95

    I do almost everything via the internet and my computer. Pay bills, purchase gifts and essentials, and upload my pictures. But all of those accounts mean a whole mess of usernames and passwords. I try keeping them similar or the same but the truth is, I have definitely run across the problem of having my online banking locked for the day because I had 1 too many failed log in attempts. That’s why I am in love with my Password.log. It is a physical booklet that I can store all of my usernames and passwords in so I don’t pull my hair out trying to pay a bill on time. Plus it’s a discreet gray color so I know it’s not going to draw any attention.


  • Moving.kit, $24.95

    In June 2008 I moved from Ann Arbor, MI to Los Angeles, CA. That’s a move of over 2000 miles! So naturally, having a Moving.kit was a huge blessing. It offers you great resources for moving companies and packing supplies, as well as questions to ask the movers and checklists to prepare for the big day, organized in 6 easy to use sections (like “2 months to go”, “Moving Days”, and “Settling In”). It even includes moving stickers so you can label your boxes (these also distinguished my boxes from everyone else’s in the large freight truck). Moving is definitely one of the most stressful life events a person can go through, so having a “road map” binder to make the transition allowed me to focus on settling in to my new home and environment instead of worrying about the logistics of the move.
